Body Kits have come a long way since development began in 1961. Today there are many brands and variations of body kits. Fiberglass and Urethane are the two most common materials used for body kits today. Carbon Fiber is another material used in making car body components. Even some brands have made their own materials to make a superior product.

Fiberglass is probably one of the most common used materials when it comes to body kits and other body components such as hoods, bumpers, fenders, and side skirts. The reason is that it's a fairly inexpensive material to manufacture. Also at a lower cost you can give an old car a new look for little investment. Be careful though. If you are hard on your cars body, then you might want to rethink this material. Fiberglass can be a bit more fragile than some other materials. Curb damage may occur easier than other materials, and climate believe it or not is also a big factor. Fiberglass doesn't hold up well to temperature changes, as your cars body may show signs of damage such as spider cracks. Fiberglass on the other hand can be repaired if the damage isn't too great. Urethane is a top choice in quality when selecting a body kit. This is due to the fact that urethane doesn't damage as easily due to its flexible nature. Although this material is probably the best choice it is also one of the most expensive choices as well. The installation of a urethane body kit can often be a little bit easier because you can manipulate it more during the installation process to get a quality fitment and maybe even a cheaper install price.

Carbon Fiber is most popular in materials used for hoods. You may notice a car on the road that has a dark grey or even black looking hood on their white car. Most likely this is a carbon fiber hood. The main factor for the carbon fiber material is that it is very light weight but yet durable as well. You can find some complete body kits made of carbon fiber, but mostly used in individual components such as hoods, fenders, deck lids, spoilers, and doors.
