Seizure, Epileptic Drugs Not Working? 4 Places to Start Healing Your mind

From the traditional medical method of seizures and epilepsy, the foundation from the approach is anti-epileptic drug therapy (AED). This foundation is put into by brain surgery or even the use of a vagal nerve stimulator implanted in the chest. That's pretty much the armamentarium. And pretty much disappointing whenever you look at precisely how effective these approaches are. However they all leave something out.

No standard traditional medical approaches actually do almost anything to heal the mind. Remember that unhealthy cognitive abilities (I call them "sick neurons") are in which the issues with migraines and epilepsy start. Medications to manage seizures merely suppress the communication between your sick neuron or groups of neurons and the neighboring cells. This is why not many epileptics can get off their meds even years or decades later--because the problem has not been fixed.

In only about 30% of times does the very first drug attempted to control seizures actually work. When that first one doesn't work, another is tried. And the other, and another. When single drugs do not work, mixtures of drugs are used. However, the realm past the utilization of just one drug is mere guesswork and never "medical science." (Remember this when your neurologist says this really is no research to support Coenzyme Q10 for seizures...).

Just in case you believe that your neurologist is different and somehow can access research unavailable elsewhere, take into account that current research into if the addition of two or more drugs is for refractory seizures (seizures that aren't well controlled with medications) finds that merely a single combination ( lamotrigine and valproate) was more effective than using only one drug. Using three drugs was not effective.

So what would be the alternatives? Clearly, when one drug isn't effective, the likelihood of another drug helping to control the seizures is very small. When faced with this situation, and hopefully well before, adding natural methods to heal the brain are critical. Their email list is long, however, you can start with some easy steps.

1) The very first is to begin to eliminate chemicals out of your life. The brain is a very sensitive organ and also the lots of of chemicals we're subjected to every day does absolutely nothing to support good brain health.

a) Never buy anything without reading the label. Better yet, buy foods that don't have to have a label. b) Do not buy foods which contain ingredients you cannot pronounce without embarrassing yourself inside a crowd of chemistry students. c) Switch your shopping from the big commercial grocery stores to smaller, healthier farmer's markets. d) Avoid ALL sugar substitutes such as the plague. e) Examine causes of chemical exposures in your lifetime and reduce whenever possible. Including -plastic water bottles and food storage containers -cosmetic and sweetness products (to incorporate hair dye) -household cleaning products, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers -all contact with tobacco smoke -old cushions or any other compounds that are flame resistant -mattresses made after July 2007 -airborne particles (use a room air cleaner).

2) Antioxidant supplements like vitamin C, vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols), CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid

3) Being active is No option; it is required for a healthy brain.

4) Consider an elmination or ketogenic diet

This list is simply the narrow your search of things that can be done to heal and protect your mind. As you can tell, there isn't any shortage of changes that you can make. The limitation to simply use medication to treat seizures borders on malpractice. Every recommendation above is well founded on medical research (or don't let say "at least" as well founded as medication usage).

A few of these changes are pretty straight forward, some are much more intrusive to your current lifestyle. But let's be honest...it is your brain. Isn't it worth it?
