Diablo III - Worth the Wait

It's finally time for IGT to review the 800 pound gorilla within the gaming room, Diablo III (D3). The sport has been out for a couple of weeks now and I believe I can finally give you, your readers, a good review (in reality I have been too busy attacking the darkness to write one). It's been twelve years since Diablo II (D2) was launched so I have been waiting eagerly with this game, read on to see if waiting for was worth it.

When you have played Diablo I (D1) and/or D2, the controls will feel familiar. You will find slight tweaks, mostly using the skill bars, but overall it is the same clickfest you are accustomed to. The inventory product is the same grid and gear slot based window. Items have similar stats as in Diablo II, however with damage per second (DPS) already calculated for you.

You will find five classes in the discharge of Diablo III; Barbarian, Monk, Demon Hunter, Wizard, and Witch Doctor. The barbarian and Wizard should feel familiar as they are near to D2 classes (the wizard being exactly what the sorceress was inD2). The monk is similar to the paladin class from D2 and also the Witch Doctor is similar to the Necromancer. The Demon Hunter takes the area from the Amazon but is only somewhat similar.

The story is actually fairly engaging for an action RPG and I found myself eager to see the difference between the various stories for every class. The primary story line is actually the same but there were small cut scenes that happened at major story points in each act that were different for each class. One thing I loved concerning the story is they tied in plots from all the way in which back in D1.

The online only bet additional numbers doesn't bother me too much as I played D2 exclusively on battle.net to play with my buddies. At first it was annoying because the servers had issues on launch, but I played Wow for six years therefore it just felt like every normal patch Tuesday or expansion launch to me; after a week things settled down and I have not experienced any issues since. I can see how players without a consistent internet connection would have a terrible experience however. It is somewhat annoying that anyone in your friends list can join your game every time they want which may be dangerous if you're inside a boss battle and all of an abrupt the boss is extra hard as it scales up for that beginners. However, should you as well as your friend wish to play together, the quick join feature is a godsend towards the multiplayer facet of farmville.

The auction house is a nice addition to the sport; I am talking about the in-game currency auction house, not the actual money ah (RMAH). I have tried personally a number of my hard earned gold to get myself newer and more effective weapons and lots of gems for decent prices and also have sold off a number of my un-needed equipment for many decent gold increases. I don't plan to take part in the RMAH when i dislike micro-transactions and along with a number of other people have the Blizzard cut is simply too much.

The graphics are a fairly weak facet of this game. I'd appear at first sight on par with 2005 and 2006 games. For a game that's been 10 years in development I'd have liked to have seen better graphics. But then again Diablo hasn't been cutting edge for the reason that department. The sport is full 3d unlike D2 which had 2d sprites, and also the spell effects are nice. But overall they're lacking.

Was the sport worth the wait? I think so. I'm enjoying it a great deal and love having fun with friends. I've just got a couple of characters into Nightmare and so i have a ways to go before I play it full-scale. I can also see how this game could possibly get old pretty quick as despite 5 classes to experience by permitting to level 60 doesn't seem like a huge undertaking. D3 still has two months left inside it for me I would say.

To conclude, D3 is a fine game otherwise a shining gem. It feels as though a natural increment in the Diablo franchise from D2. The gameplay is familiar and super fun. The storyline is engaging as well as for those fans from both previous games it ties up some loose ends. IGT gives Diablo III a 9 around the d10 of hack and slash adventures.
