When Is The Right Time To Declutter? Take The Test And See
Are you REALLY ready to declutter?
clutter - When I tell people I’m a Professional Organiser and Declutterer I know what the very next comment is likely to be:
”I could do with you at my house”
Yes, everyone has some clutter somewhere and many have more than they feel comfortable with but is that the same as being ready to declutter successfully?
Here’s a quick and simple Yes/No test. It will show if you really are ready now :
Question 1. Would you be happy with how you live if only other people would stop showing disapproval of how much stuff you have?
Question 2. Have you been through a major life change such as divorce or bereavement in the last 3 months?
Question 3. Do you believe that getting rid of things from your past will help you to let go?
clutter - If you can answer Yes to ANY of these questions then now is probably not the right time for you to be ringing your nearest Professional Organiser and here’s why:
Decluttering is not about tidying it’s about a change in how you do things and deal with things.
Any change can be positive, stimulating and exciting but it may also be challenging. You have to be ready for change – and not attempt it because someone else in your life thinks it would be a good idea (however well intentioned…)
There is a right time to declutter and organise after a major life event
There is always a time for moving on but, for best and lasting results, this is usually after the initial period of change has been weathered. Give focus to your emotions and then move on when the time is right. Only you will know when this is.
Letting go can be liberating as well as creating space
De-cluttering frees the space you live in but it also helps free the mind. There’s a great sense of satisfaction and achievement when your life is less cluttered. A few, well chosen items in a ‘Precious things and memories’ box can give pleasure and consolation but reminders of bad experiences can reinforce negatives thoughts and self image. Part of acknowledging life experience and moving forward is knowing what to rid yourself of and what to take with you to the next stage of your life.
So, are you ready to declutter and move on?
clutter - If so, you may well want the experience and practical support of one of UK’s growing band of Professional Organisers and Declutterers.
