Best Wedding Cake Ever Made But A Day Late Keeps It a Secret and also the Baker Remains Pocket Poor

Among my clients made the following statement: "You might have the best wedding cake ever baked and decorated, but delivering your day after the wedding will keep your company a secret" and I added "not to say keeping you pocket poor."

From my observations, there are still lots of pocket poor bakers whether small business owners to individual employees. Missed delivery dates still haunt many smaller businesses to even large corporation.

How often within the mission to increase sales the solution comes a day late along with a dollar short? Crazy busy sales people are always looking for this new sales lead or new customer. They create promises and contracts are signed. Then when the answer arrives the delivery date is not made. People scramble in some places, casting blame on everyone such as the client. The salesperson remains holding the bag and perhaps a debit to his or her commission check.

In the current workforce, there will be considered a ":que sera sera" what will be will be attitude by some employees not to mention smaller businesses. The attitude or belief the solution should be delivered promptly and on budget appears to have been lost during the 20th century. Now, people expect payment for excuses rather than results.

Using the trend to hire independent contractors particularly when you are looking at technology services, this can be a rampant almost epidemic problem. One of my colleagues in trying to use some programmers over the course of several months had to literally cancel the contract three separate times until he found a team prepared to perform the work. What is so sad he'd the entire project organized and was very specific with what he wanted from the IT programmers. What he received was excuse after excuse even after promises were made to honor the delivery date.

Another client is facing this productivity challenge both from his full time employees in addition to independent contractors. He sets the parameters, clearly communicates the expectations and still projects are delivered late. Now he or she must make amends using the customers.

With the economy still very shaky, one would think people would do the things they required to do as quickly as possible to allow them to either keep their jobs or earn money from their efforts and onto the next project. However this is not the case. Again, lots of pocket poor bakers appear to be in the workforce.

The only real suggestion would be to invest more time to find the right people. What this means is the use of performance appraisal tools along with a tight interviewing and candidate selection process to ensure the right individuals with the best talents making the best decisions for the right leads to the best time frame enter your workforce (the best environment). By investing additional time on the front-end from the hiring process can lead to spending much less on the tailgate end.
