Finding it Hard to Go to Sleep at Night


You want to go to sleep. You're exhausted and it is only the middle of the week. If you don't sleep well tonight, you're going to be a wreck at the office tomorrow. You feel eager to sleep. You lie in bed worrying. Hours past and you are still awake. You contemplate calling in sick tomorrow, but you're workload is piling up. You barely obtain a couple of hours sleep and it is already the next day. The cycle goes on.

Many of us find it hard to go to sleep during the night and most of the time we cannot explain it. Strangely enough, it's ourselves that usually sabotage our very own sleep through negative thinking and emotions. Normal sleepers go to sleep usually with little difficulty. What exactly makes sleep come so easily on their behalf?

No one is born an insomniac and absolutely anyone can are afflicted by insomnia. So what's the difference between a normal sleeper and somebody who has sleeplessness, and how does someone become an insomniac?

Firstly, you will find endless causes of insomnia; emotional stress, environmental changes, substance abuse, psychological and psychological troubles are all potential triggers for insomnia.

Secondly there are varying types and examples of insomnia. Transient, intermittent and chronic insomnia would be the three main types, but insomnia can differ a good deal from person to person. Some people might find it tough to go to sleep several nights a month or during times of stress and sleep like babies for the most part. Others are affected from insomnia every evening.

Whenever a normal sleeper goes to sleep, he or she doesn't think about getting or otherwise getting any sleep. They simply enter into bed, come out the lights and sleep just comes. They do not worry and lie in wake thinking about anything. Their sleep onset mechanism is strong. Of course, this isn't always the case. Even a healthy sleeper may suffer from sleeplessness once along with a while.

Consider when you attend sleep. Are you currently sabotaging your sleep? Do you fall asleep worrying about the following day and not getting any sleep? Anxiety, emotional stress and worry aren't the only triggers for poor sleep, but they often have a decisive factor in whether a person gets sleep or otherwise.

You are able to fall asleep during the night without worrying about sleep. But it takes time to understand how you can forget about thoughts. For a lot of insomniacs their bed triggers wakefulness, since they have learnt to associate it with sleeplessness. Negative conditioning such as this, can be unlearned and replaced with positive ones over time.
