Not long ago i purchased a Kindle Fire, replacing my original Kindle, which had seen increasing use throughout the last several years. Ironically, the Kindle Fire was purchased at a regular offline establishment, while i desired to browse the weight and size of the device prior to purchase. I use the term ironic, since these types of devices may represent another source down the road demise with the offline operations selling them. My decision will be Kindle versus Ipad, with size, weight and interface important aspects.

It was bigger than my original Kindle, but small enough that need considering a novel substitute. I discovered the screen much easier to read than my original Kindle, and it offered all the features of a colour display. Two major enhancements included the opportunity to browse the web and to download apps, including very important and useful apps, for example Angry Birds. The web browser works wherever one can find Wi-Fi access, including HotSpots. The Ipad have also been spectacular, offering greater functionality albeit with a larger size and weight, at about 21 ounces when compared to the 14 ounces from the Kindle.

The Amazon kindle fire is almost like having your own private public library in the palm of the hand. Many classics cost nothing, or highly affordable eliminating the necessity to drive to a bookstore or local library. The Kindle Fire, and possibly eReaders generally speaking, present an expansive personal library, allowing users to specifically (or randomly) choose just about any new book sample or classic. Striving to combine in a few from the classics with my recent business selections (Blink and Jobs) I also downloaded: Mountain Interval (Robert Frost), Prufrock and Other Observations (T.S. Eliot), Walking (Thoreau) and The Wreck with the Hesperus (Longfellow). These aren't entirely random as the appearance of countless characters in Woody Allen's movie, Midnight in Paris, provided the catalyst to review many of these works. And that's one of many advantages with the Kindle, within seconds of learning about, or considering a book or perhaps an author, you will be reading a favorite classic or contemporary work.

Amazon also provides a Kindle Owners' Lending Library program (USD79 annually) which gives a totally free library of books (currently about 5,000) and use of a free of charge video streaming service with over 10,000 movies and television episodes. Additionally, it provides free freight on Amazon purchases and is also essentially a "no brainer" if you buy a novel or maybe more monthly, because the estimated costs would be over USD100 per year to do so.

I personally use the previous often, but haven't yet used the second. The Kindle Fire, eReaders and tablet type solutions will change future use of content. I have seen friends who I might consider "technology laggards" rapidly adopting eReaders and tablets. The benefit of being able to transport twelve or more books on any vacation or business trip, sample any book before purchasing, changing font size and brightness to support selections and use of an increasing online library are just a several catalysts driving behavioral changes. Though don't assume all books are yet available on the Kindle, I've seen estimates of 650,000+ and I'm sure this will grow rapidly to accommodate consumer purchasing habits as increasing numbers of people proceed to eReaders. Main point here, right now, I think the Amazon kindle fire is a great solution for pretty much anyone who likes to read.
