In Kandy we stayed inside the Queen's Hotel, situated over a very English corner, and looking like an English town hotel.

The place had a garden using a pool, mostly frequented by 'gap year' public school like students, who might get an inexpensive shower, and good food at excellent prices.

Dinner was served within an almost deserted restaurant, by way of a black tie waiter, and that we exercised my curry cost you a little over 1 stg!!

In reality the meal was superb, drinks cheap, and our total bill for 2 rooms, plus dinner, drinks, and drinks across the pool, came to a huge 75!!

The direction to Nuwara Eliya was not long in miles, however it took hours, as a result of steep climb, and the narrowness of the road, in addition to the quantity of vehicles and buses we encountered.

Shortly before arriving in Nuwara Eliya we were amazed to find out road side shacks selling such vegetables as leeks, carrots, cauliflowers, all memories of once the traffic was mainly English residents.

Dinner was a jacket and tie affair[supplied if you have left yours behind!!], with a classic English menu with fish course included, all served by white gloved waiters.

Our room was unsurprisingly old fashioned, with warm water bottles inside our beds.

Being a hill town Nuwara Eliya from your distance looks totally English, like the 'Gardens' with bandstand, it absolutely was for any short moment a little strange seeing no white faces.

The club is totally home counties 1930's, as well as the course immaculate. When the sudden not enough English names around the honours board after 1973 was dramatic, it brought home no more Empire.
